Of course, whatever happens to our lives are on in our hands. But the chance of succeeding life is high given that we have the best education and has everything we wanted and needed. No matter how great life was, there were still times that we had to face rough patches and a few bumps along the road. We experience a financial problem in the early 2000’s and continued to down spiraled in the coming years. 2010 was the hardest time because it came to the point that we had to sell all our cars, let go of some of our employees and also found our bank accounts almost zero. We did not know where to start. Everything we have was washed out and the only thing we have aside from each other was our faith in the Lord.

Only two us has graduated and four more were studying. My siblings almost have to stop studying because we do not have enough money to pay for their tuition. But since education is very important for my parents, they borrowed money from different people and even sold some of the things we have left so that they can still continue studying and have enough money to cover up for all our daily expenses.

My mother was our pillar of strength, but my father took it very hard. He has stopped drinking alcohol since he met an accident in 1997. But the pressure and stress was too hard that he went back to drinking in a way, which was even worse than he used to do. We saw that every time he was feeling stress or wanted to relax, he would start downing at of beer. Until today he is still facing the same problem, which we hope he puts an end to before its too late.

Another member of the family who has followed what my father does anytime he felt stress was my older brother. He also has a hard the adjusting to what was happening and would always find drinking alcohol a way to calm him down. It got even worse after a few years that he would even sleep inside his car in the highway because he was too drunk to drive. To put an end to this, my mother and I started reading articles about how to help siblings with alcohol abuse. We tried to do an intervention which we successfully done. How can people pay for this when they do not even have enough money to live in a house or buy food. Having a health check up is surely at the bottom of their checklist.

When I look around the city, I thank the Lord God for blessing with everything I have. From surrounding me with the best people whom I love and care for dearly, from providing for our basic wants and needs. I am truly very lucky because I get to enjoy the things I have unlike our other less fortunate brothers and sisters who needs to walk around to beg for food. It breaks my heart to see that there are people who even had to go to the trashcans and check if there are still food in the containers thrown. Life is truly not the same for everyone and we should learn how to appreciate everything we have from the biggest and most significant down to the smallest and littlest things. Not everyone has the chance to experience the life that we are enjoying today. In order to give back, we should know how to share and help other people in whatever way we can.
